Guinness and Stella are the names of our two dogs. They are Mastadors, which is a mix between a Labrador Retriever and Bullmastiff. We got them from the same litter, and yes, they are large dogs, weighing 120lbs and 140lbs. When we lost our dearest two Golden Retrievers, Dudley and Reilly, my wife and I decided on two dogs of a different breed so not to compare.
In 2008, the country was hit with a financial crisis caused by the banks. Many lost their jobs and I had little choice but to go back to New York City to manage a renovation phase of the United Nations. It was during this time we lost our Goldens. Every Wednesday night a colleague and I would go to the Jamison Irish Pub on 2nd Avenue for dinner. It was a routine we followed and the waitress had our drinks on the table waiting. I had a Guinness and he had a Stella. So, yes….they are named after beers and to remember my time away from home.
